Fernanda Brenner in conversation with Louidgi Beltrame & Laura Huertas Millán

Excerpt from a conversation

In the framework of the exhibition La huaca llora at La Loge, curator Fernanda Brenner dialogues with artists and filmmakers Louidgi Beltrame and Laura Huertas Millán about their visual works and some of their common threads. The discussion revolved around the ideas of beings in front & behind the camera, the transference of objects' agency, interspecific relationships as well as the political use of plants. A selection of excerpts from their films complemented the respective presentations and contributions from the guests.

Biographies

Fernanda Brenner is the founding director of Pivô, in São Paulo and Salvador, works as a Latin American art advisor for Kadist Art Foundation. Since 2017 she has been a contributing editor for Frieze Magazine. Recent projects include Body House: Dialogues Between Carolee Schneemann, Diego Bianchi and Márcia Falcão, Pivô, São Paulo (2024), I see no difference between a handshake and a poem, Mendes Wood DM, Paris (2023), Do You Believe in Ghosts?, 24th Pernod Ricard Foundation Prize, Paris (2023), Peace, or Never at FHNW, Basel (2022),with Chus Martínez, Present Future section at Artissima, Torino (2020 and 2021), with Ilaria Giani, and solo exhibitions Oriana, Beatriz Santiago Munõz (2021/2023), at Pivô and Argos, Brussels, Pol Taburet: Sweats for the Sweet (2023), Mariana Castillo Deball: To-day project (2023), It’s Night in America, Ana Vaz (2022), Vuadora, Paulo Nazareth (2022) co-curated with Diane Lima, República, Luiz Roque (2020), Avalanche, Katinka Bock (2019) all at Pivô and the group shows A Burrice dos Homens, at Bergamin Gomide gallery, São Paulo (2019), Neither, Mendes Wood DM, Brussels (2017), and the co-curating of the exhibition Caixa Preta, at Iberê Camargo Foundation, Porto Alegre (2018). Her texts have featured several publications, including Textwork by the Fondation d'Enterprise Pernod Ricard, Art Review, Artforum, Art Agenda, Terremoto, Mousse, Cahiers d'Art, as well as contributing to national and international institutional catalogs and monographs, i.e., MASP, Centre Georges Pompidou, CAC Passerelle, Galeria Municipal do Porto, Culturgest, Fridericianum, and MOCA Detroit.

Laura Huertas Millán is an artist, filmmaker, and writer from Colombia, based in France. She holds a PhD from PSL University (SACRe program) developed at the Sensory Ethnography Lab (Harvard University). More than twenty film retrospectives of her work have been held internationally. Her films have been shown in leading world cinema festivals and won prizes at the Locarno Film Festival, FIDMarseille, Doclisboa and Videobrasil. She had solo exhibitions at the MASP São Paulo, Maison des Arts de Malakoff and Medellin’s Modern Art Museum. Her films have also been exhibited and screened at the Centre Pompidou, Jeu de Paume, Guggenheim Museum in NYC, Times Art Berlin and presented in biennials such as the Liverpool, FRONT Triennial, Videobrasil, Videonale & Sharjah Biennial.
