A Common Breath is a public programme developed around four live online events and an installation visible at La Loge. Over a series of performances, films, and talks with participants from various disciplines, questions on ecology, ecological justice, and decolonisation will be discussed, sparking new connections between such notions. A Common Breath advocates for nonhierarchical relationships and collective consciousness in order to shed light on the alternative ways we can live and act together that today’s society casts aside.

The consequences of colonialism and our subsequent reactions, socio-political discord, and environmental disaster are culminating. A Common Breath therefore asks: is it possible to address the sources of such global “troubles” in a different way? How can we use the current situation as a fertile ground for new social and ecological systems? What new kinds of pacts and alliances can be made, especially under the extreme pressure we feel today?

It seems clear that humans cannot exist outside of the complex relationships they uphold with nonhuman forms of life and objects. Yet, such relationships remain to be clearly defined, be it politically, economically or otherwise.

In the context of current events—which have led both the arts and architecture to experience new levels of collective difficulties and challenges—La Loge has organized this programme to offer a space to come together, to produce new narratives, visual forms, and creative ways of thinking.

A Common Breath’s format is hybrid, spanning different timeframes and spaces, meaning the programme is to be experienced both online and at La Loge. The films shown during the live online events will be visible at La Loge in the temple following the week of their online broadcast. Other films, which will be temporarily streamable on www.la-loge.be, will be screened in the exhibition rooms at La Loge during the course of the programme.
